Although Konoha was formed by the cooperation between Senju and Uchiha, these two clans have apparently been enemies since long ago.
What made them enemies? Why do they hate each other? So, what do they stand for in their enmity? These questions will be answered in the explanation of the history of the Senju and Uchiha clan's enmity below. Check out the following review. Muryō no eiga
1. The beginning of the Senju and Uchiha clans
The origins of the Senju and Uchiha clans have been the beginning of the hatred between the two clans. Basically, the Senju and Uchiha are descendants of Hagoromo Otsutsuki's two children, Asura and Indra Otsutsuki. Senju is a descendant of Asura, while Uchiha is a descendant of Indra.
When Hagoromo began to approach his death, Hagoromo chose Asura to be his successor rather than Indra. Asura believed in Asura's ideology of love over Indra's ideology of strength. As the eldest son, Indra did not accept his father's decision. This eventually sparked a rivalry between the two, which was then passed on to his descendants.
2. The hatred between the two clans worsened in the Warring States Period
While the two clans have always been hostile towards each other, the hatred between the Senju and Uchiha clans intensified during the Warring States Period. In that era, countries involved in warfare often hired ninja clans as mercenaries to attack other countries.
Coincidentally, the Senju and Uchiha clans were the two strongest clans at that time. When a country hired the Senju clan, its enemy country would hire the Uchiha clan. This made the feud between the two clans even more heated. However, things started to change when Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha became the leaders of their respective clans.

3. Agreed to a truce to establish Konoha
The Senju and Uchiha clans were like water and fire. The two have always been enemies so it seemed impossible for them to make peace. However, peace was achieved after Hashirama and Madara became the leaders of their respective clans.
Although the two clans were enemies, Hashirama and Madara had been friends since they were children. Hashirama and Madara actually have the same dream, which is that they want to create a world without war. When both of them grew up, Hashirama was ready to realize this dream by offering a truce to Madara.
At first, Madara refused the offer because he was burdened by the death of his sister, Izuna Uchiha, who was killed by Hashirama's younger brother, Tobirama Senju. However, after seeing Hashirama who was ready to die to create peace, Madara finally accepted Hashirama's offer. With that, the two clans officially reconciled to establish Konohagakure.
4. Hostility remains, even after the peace treaty
Although a peace treaty was made, it did not mean that the hostility between the two clans ended. Even after Konohagakure was established, the Uchiha clan was still often discriminated against by the people of Konoha. Moreover, Hashirama was elected as the First Hokage. This made the Senju clan seem even more prioritized in the village. Therefore, Madara felt that Hashirama had not kept his promise.
Even after the Hashirama and Tobirama era passed, discrimination against the Uchiha clan still existed. Tobirama seems to have inherited his hatred to the next generation. The Uchiha clan's discrimination came to a head when Obito Uchiha unleashed the Nine Tails on Konoha. Due to the attack, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, decided to exile the Uchiha clan to the outskirts of Konoha.
5. The role of the Black Zetsu in the enmity of the Senju and Uchiha clans
As the author has already mentioned, the enmity between the Senju and Uchiha clans has started since the dispute between Asura and Indra. However, the hostility between the two clans might not have been that bad if it hadn't been muddied by Zetsu Hitam.
Black Zetsu himself is an envoy of Kaguya Otsutsuki who was tasked with resurrecting Kaguya with the Infinite Tsukuyomi. To achieve this, Zetsu Hitam began his steps by pitting Asura and Indra against each other.
Capitalizing on Indra's disappointment with his father's decision, Zetsu Hitam incites Indra to hate Asura. Not stopping there, Zetsu Hitam also made Madara carry out the Moon Eye Plan by changing the writing on the Uchiha's new tablet.
Kaguya is indeed the main antagonist in this series. Starting from the enmity of the Senju and Uchiha clans to the Fourth Shinobi War, everything is just part of Kaguya's revival plan. Impressive, isn't it?
